Nike Waffle Shoes?

How did Bill Bowerman make the Nike waffle. I know he used a rubber sole, and put it together with glue, but what did he use for the upper and the overlays? Also, what all was the sole consisted of? I know part of it was rubber, but was there anything else? Thanks.

Nike Waffle Shoes?
The story I remember is that he actually used a waffle maker to make the soles, hence the names Nike Waffle Trainers, Nike Waffle Racers, etc. I had the waffle racers when I was in school in the late 70s. They were good shoes for races on pavement.. Our school did not have synthetic track.
Reply:He used a waffle maker..lol..you should watch the movie, "Without limits".
