Is it safe to spray suede - leather upper shoes with waterproof protectant that is not for patent leather?

I'm sure you know this already, but suede and patent leather are totally different - suede is soft and has to be treated with a waterproofing agent or it will stain and possibly rot; patent leather is shiny and needs a different type of spray, or polish depending on how shiny it is.

If you're in the UK, Clarks shoe shops do a very good waterproofing spray that is designed for suede but can be used on other fabrics too. Be careful when you're using the waterproofing sprays and don't breathe the spray in as they're very effective!

To conclude, you CAN spray your suede with non-suede spray, but you are much better off getting one designed for it, as suede is fairly delicate and could stain.
